Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been diagnosed with a type of liver cancer called hepatocellular carcinoma, confirmed by a tissue sample or by specific imaging scan results
- Your liver tumor(s) are 5 cm (about 2 inches) or smaller in size
- You have 3 or fewer tumors
- Any abnormal blood vessels inside your tumor are either absent or smaller than 3 mm
- Your liver is functioning at a good level, based on a medical scoring system called Child-Pugh class A (confirm with trial site)
- You are able to carry out normal daily activities, or have only minor limitations, based on a standard performance scale (confirm with trial site)
- Your blood test results meet specific levels for white blood cells, red blood cells, liver function, kidney function, and blood clotting (confirm with trial site for exact values)
- You are expected to live for more than 3 months
- You have read and signed a consent form showing you understand the trial
- If you are a woman who could become pregnant, you must not currently be pregnant
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has spread into the hepatic veins (the veins that carry blood out of the liver)
- Imaging scans show significant abnormal activity in the portal vein or hepatic veins
- You have abnormal blood vessels inside your tumor that are 3 mm or larger
- You have had a procedure called a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (a type of connection created inside the liver to manage blood pressure) (confirm with trial site)
- You have had surgery connecting your bile ducts to your intestine, or you have a bile duct stent in place
- You have a lung condition called centrilobular emphysema or interstitial lung disease
- Your cancer has spread into the main portal vein (the large vein that supplies blood to the liver)
