Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 65 years, of any gender
- People who have been diagnosed with chronic insomnia disorder (based on DSM-5 criteria), where the main problem is taking more than 30 minutes to fall asleep, happening 3 or more nights per week, for more than 3 months but less than 3 years
- People who can independently use a smartphone and are able to complete self-reported questionnaires and follow self-guided treatment instructions after being shown how
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have other sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea or restless legs syndrome
- People who score above 10 on the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, a standardised questionnaire measuring daytime sleepiness (confirm with trial site)
- People who have taken any sleep-related medication in the past month
- People who score above 15 on a standard depression questionnaire (PHQ-9) or above 10 on a standard anxiety questionnaire (GAD-7) (confirm with trial site)
- People who are currently taking part in any form of talking therapy (such as cognitive behavioural therapy) or brain stimulation research study
- People who work night shifts or rotating shift schedules
- People who have been clinically diagnosed with a neurological condition such as epilepsy, stroke, dementia, or Parkinson's disease, or a psychiatric condition such as bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, or panic disorder
- People with a history of substance misuse, including alcohol consumption of more than 14 drinks per week for males or more than 12 drinks per week for females
