Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with a specific type of bile duct cancer (called unresectable peripheral cholangiocarcinoma) that cannot be surgically removed, is located at least 1 centimeter above the upper edge of the pancreas, and has a tumor no larger than 3 centimeters
- The diagnosis must have been confirmed by one of the following: a tissue or cell sample taken through a catheter procedure; a specific blood marker (CA-19.9) above a certain level and/or a growth seen on a scan with signs of a blocked bile duct; or a special chromosome test (called FISH) showing signs of cancer alongside a blocked bile duct appearance
- People aged between 18 and 70 years old
- People with no evidence that the cancer has spread inside or outside the liver
- People with no evidence that the cancer has spread to any lymph nodes
- People who have had stents (small tubes) placed to keep all areas of the bile ducts open across the liver
- People who have no medical reasons preventing them from having a liver transplant
- People with no other current cancers and no history of another cancer in the past 5 years
- People who have given written agreement to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose bile duct cancer originates inside the liver (called intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma)
- People with an active infection that is not under control
- People who currently have another cancer, or who have had a different cancer within the past 5 years
