Who may be able to join

Who may not be able to join

- People who are unable to give their own informed consent to participate.
- People who regularly use muscle relaxants or anti-anxiety medications.
- People who have muscle or bone conditions that would make it difficult to lie still on their back for approximately one hour.
- People who have disorders of the skull or spine, such as Chiari Malformation.
- People who have spinal injuries, significant disc problems, spinal narrowing, a slipped vertebra, spina bifida, or who have had recent spinal surgery.
- People with severe osteoporosis that carries a risk of bone fracture.
- People with a history of certain neurological conditions, such as a stroke in the past year, a mild brain injury within the past 6 months, multiple sclerosis, bleeding in the brain, fluid build-up in the brain, brain infections, or a brain tumour (with some exceptions — confirm with trial site).
- People with serious sleep disorders such as narcolepsy.
- People with major or poorly controlled psychiatric illness or severe depression.
- People who require medications that act on the brain, such as stimulants, sedatives, sleeping tablets, benzodiazepines, or antipsychotics (note: people on stable antidepressant treatment or mild anti-seizure medication for nerve pain may still be considered — confirm with trial site).
- People with an active infection or a serious uncontrolled illness affecting the whole body.
- People with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a long-term lung condition).
- People who have recently had a heart attack, have an implanted defibrillator, poorly controlled blood pressure, an irregular heartbeat, unstable chest pain, or significant heart failure.
- People who are at risk of blood clots or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
- People who weigh more than 135 kg (300 lbs).
- People who smoke more than 5 cigarettes a day or drink more than one alcoholic beverage per day.
