Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who are scheduled to have planned (non-emergency) coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) heart surgery using a heart-lung bypass machine
- People who have at least one factor that puts them at higher risk of complications after surgery, such as: being 65 or older; having reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site); having a history of heart failure or a weakened heart pumping function measured within the past 6 months; having diabetes along with a certain level of protein in the urine (confirm with trial site); having poor circulation in the legs or arms due to narrowed arteries; having low red blood cell levels (a hemoglobin level below 10 g/dl); or having had a previous heart surgery
Who may not be able to join:
- People with certain abnormal blood test results at the time of screening, including significantly elevated liver enzyme levels, very low kidney function, or a hemoglobin level below 8 g/dl (confirm specific thresholds with trial site)
- People who have had gastric bypass surgery or who have a condition that affects how the body absorbs nutrients
- People who have used alcohol heavily or used illicit substances in the past 6 months
- People who have taken part in another clinical drug or biologic trial within the past 3 months (or within a specific timeframe based on the previous drug — confirm with trial site)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People of reproductive age — including women who could become pregnant and men who are sexually active with a partner who could become pregnant — who are unwilling to use contraception while taking the study drug and for 8 weeks after the last dose
- People currently taking niacin at doses above 100 mg per day, or taking NMN, nicotinamide, or nicotinamide riboside supplements at any dose
- People already taking part in other research studies that may conflict with this trial
- People with any other condition that the trial doctor considers may increase the risk of harm from participating
