Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older, of any sex
- People who have had a type of heart attack called a STEMI (where specific changes are seen on a heart tracing test called an ECG), and who are planned to have a procedure to open a blocked heart artery
- People whose heart attack chest pain started within the last 24 hours
- People (and their family) who have agreed to take part by signing a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People experiencing severe complications from their heart attack, such as severe heart failure with fluid in the lungs, severe shock after needing resuscitation, or serious structural problems with the heart (such as a hole in the heart wall or torn heart muscle)
- People who have had a previous heart attack, have a disease affecting the heart muscle, or have dangerous heart rhythm problems that are being managed with medication
- People who have a condition that affects blood clotting, or who are currently taking blood-thinning medications in a way that would make injections unsafe
- People who are allergic to opioid pain medications, or who have a history of opioid addiction
- People who are already taking part in another clinical trial
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with serious organ problems, such as liver failure, kidney failure, or breathing failure
- People with a serious active infection
- People with severe mental health conditions that would make it difficult to participate, or who are taking antipsychotic medications
- People the research team considers unsuitable for the trial for other reasons (confirm with trial site)
