Who might be able to join this trial:
All participants must meet these criteria:
- People aged between 20 and 60 years old
- People with normal hearing, confirmed by a hearing test (confirm with trial site)
- People who score 26 or above on a standard memory and thinking assessment called the MoCA
- People who are willing to have brainwave (EEG) testing done
For the sleep apnoea group, additionally:
- People who have been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnoea (a serious sleep breathing condition) confirmed by an overnight sleep study, with more than 30 breathing interruptions per hour
For the healthy comparison group, additionally:
- People who report no snoring or sleep disorders
- People who have never been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of schizophrenia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, brain injury, or language disorders
- People with a history of middle or inner ear diseases, such as ear infections or certain ear tumours
- People with a history of cognitive impairment, depression, or anxiety disorders
- People who use steroid medications on a long-term basis
- People with chronic inflammatory diseases or cancer
- People who are pregnant or think they may be pregnant (based on self-report)
