Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old.
- You have been diagnosed with myofascial pain syndrome (a condition involving painful muscle knots), confirmed using a specific set of diagnostic criteria.
- You have active "trigger points" (tight, painful knots) in the upper trapezius muscle (the muscle running along the top of your shoulder and neck).

- You have a blood clotting disorder (such as haemophilia or low platelets) or are currently taking blood-thinning medication.
- You have an active infection at or near the area where an injection would be given, a widespread infection in your body, or broken/damaged skin in that area.
- You have a psychiatric condition that could affect your response to treatment or the results of the study (confirm with trial site).
- You have a serious neurological or heart condition, or diabetes that is not well controlled.
- You have a neck disc problem that is pressing on a nerve (causing symptoms such as shooting pain or numbness down the arm).
- You have received a shoulder injection, trigger point injection, dry needling, manual therapy, or electrotherapy in the past 3 months.
- You have previously had surgery on your neck or shoulder.
- You have been diagnosed with a frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tendon problem, or shoulder impingement syndrome.
- You have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia (a condition causing widespread body pain).
- You have active trigger points (painful muscle knots) in other muscles of your back, not just the upper trapezius.
