Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between the ages of 21 and 85
- People who have had a HeartMate III Left Ventricular Assist Device (a mechanical heart pump) implanted
- People whose heart pump device is working normally, based on device readings
- People who are medically stable and ready to be discharged from hospital to go home
- People who were 18 years of age or older at the time their heart pump was implanted
- People who are able and willing to provide written consent to participate before the trial begins
Who may not be able to join:
- People who currently have a fever or ongoing general illness symptoms
- People with certain liver problems, including raised bilirubin levels, a severely damaged liver, or liver cirrhosis confirmed by biopsy (confirm with trial site for specific bilirubin threshold)
- People who require dialysis or who have been diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease
- People who are unable to complete written consent forms or quality-of-life questionnaires
- People with a currently active cancer diagnosis
- People with a history of more than one pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs) or deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in the leg)
- People who are unable to undergo a right heart catheterization (a procedure to assess the right side of the heart)
- People who have had a major heart or stroke event within 2 months of a CardioMEMS device being implanted (a small heart monitoring sensor)
- People with significantly reduced kidney function who have not responded to fluid-removal medications (confirm with trial site)
- People who are likely to receive a heart transplant within 6 months of the initial screening visit
- People with congenital heart disease (heart conditions present from birth) or a mechanical valve in the right side of the heart
- People with known blood clotting disorders
- People with a known allergy or sensitivity to aspirin and/or clopidogrel (common blood-thinning medications)
- People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- People who required an additional mechanical pump to support the right side of the heart and who have severe right-heart failure following their heart pump implantation
