Who may be able to join
AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI
Who might be able to join this trial:
- Your heart's pumping function (measured as a percentage called LVEF) is below 50%
- Your heart's pumping function is between 50–55%, AND scans show specific changes to your heart tissue or an enlarged heart chamber, AND you carry a gene change known to cause a type of heart muscle disease not related to blocked arteries (confirm with trial site for exact gene details)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have severely blocked heart arteries or have previously had a certain type of heart attack caused by a blocked artery
- You have a significant heart defect present from birth that has needed treatment
- You have a serious problem with one of your heart valves, such as significant narrowing or leaking of the aortic or mitral valve (minor valve leaking as a secondary effect is generally not a reason for exclusion)
- Your heart condition is explained by a specific separate disease, such as amyloid heart disease, Chagas disease, Takotsubo syndrome, sarcoidosis, iron overload, or HIV-related heart disease
- Your heart condition is thought to be caused entirely by a substance or treatment you received, such as certain medications or therapies (this is decided by your cardiologist)
- You have a history of a specific condition called "burned out hypertrophic cardiomyopathy"
- You have already had a heart transplant before your first heart scan (CMR) for this trial
- You do not wish to give your consent to participate
Additional things to know:
- This trial is open to both adults and children
- Patients over 70 years old may be included, but their numbers are limited to a small proportion of participants per centre (confirm with trial site)
- Having risk factors such as past chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or alcohol use does not automatically exclude you, unless your doctor believes these fully explain your heart condition
