Who might be able to join this trial:
Group S – People with possible heart failure symptoms:
- People aged 65 or older
- People who are experiencing symptoms that may suggest heart failure, such as shortness of breath (during activity, at rest, when lying down, or waking at night struggling to breathe), tiredness, swollen ankles or legs, and/or a racing or irregular heartbeat
- People who are able to understand the study requirements and agree to take part (either personally or through a legal representative)
Group R – People at risk of heart failure but without current symptoms:
- People aged 65 or older
- People who do not currently have any of the symptoms listed above
- People who have at least one recognised heart failure risk factor, such as high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, past exposure to treatments that can affect the heart, or a personal or family history of a heart muscle condition
- People who are having an ECG (a simple heart tracing test) for any reason at a primary care centre, or as part of a routine health check that includes an ECG
- People who are able to understand the study requirements and agree to take part (either personally or through a legal representative)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unwilling or unable to sign the consent form agreeing to take part
- People who have already been diagnosed with heart failure
- People for whom an ECG recording is not available or is of too poor a quality to be used in the study
