Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who have had a procedure to open blocked or narrowed heart arteries (called PCI) and whose case has been recorded in the Netherlands Heart Registration (NHR) quality database.
- People whose artery blockage meets at least one of the following "complex" definitions:
- Left main artery disease: A significant narrowing (more than 50%) or reduced blood flow in the main artery supplying the left side of the heart.
- Heavily calcified (hardened) arteries: Cases where special tools were needed during the procedure to break up calcium deposits in the artery walls.
- Completely blocked artery (chronic total occlusion): A full blockage of a heart artery that is estimated to have been present for at least 3 months, with specific characteristics seen on imaging.
- Blockage at the opening of a major artery: A narrowing located at or very close to the point where a major heart artery begins (within 5mm of its origin).
- Long blockage: Cases where one or more stents were placed with a total combined length of 38mm or more.
- Bifurcation lesion: A narrowing at or near a point where a heart artery splits into two branches, where both the main artery and the branch are significantly affected (specific pattern confirmed by imaging).
- Blockage inside a previously placed stent (in-stent restenosis): A narrowing of 50% or more found inside or very close to a stent that was placed in an earlier procedure.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who had a heart artery procedure (PCI) that does not involve any of the complex features listed above.
