Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are covered by a social security system
- People who have been fully informed about the study and have given their written, signed consent to take part
- People who are suspected of having sleep apnea (a condition where breathing stops and starts during sleep) but have not yet been diagnosed or treated, and who score 11 or higher on a standard daytime sleepiness scale (the Epworth Sleepiness Scale)
- People who have been on a stable, effective treatment for sleep apnea (with a confirmed severity level of 15 or more breathing interruptions per hour) for at least 15 days, and who are scheduled for a wakefulness test (MWT) — this group will include roughly equal numbers of people under 40 and 40 or older
- People who have been on a stable, effective treatment for a specific type of narcolepsy (Type 1, involving sudden muscle weakness or low levels of a brain chemical called orexin) for at least 15 days, and who are scheduled for a wakefulness test (MWT)
- Healthy volunteers who score below 11 on the standard daytime sleepiness scale
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have more than one sleep disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness at the same time (for example, having both sleep apnea and narcolepsy)
- People with a serious condition that is considered life-threatening in the short term
- People with a heart, brain, mental health, breathing, infectious, hormonal, or other ongoing health condition that is not currently stable and may need hospitalisation or a change in treatment during the study period
- People who have started or changed the dose of a medication affecting alertness or mood within the past year, in a way that could affect wakefulness test results
- Healthy volunteers who show signs of possible sleep apnea (scoring 5 or more on the STOP-BANG questionnaire) or possible serious insomnia (scoring 22 or more on the ISI questionnaire)
- People who work shift or night shifts
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are under a legal protection order due to reduced capacity to make decisions (such as curatorship or guardianship)
