Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children who have been diagnosed with cancer (such as leukaemia, lymphoma, or solid tumours), are currently in hospital receiving cancer treatment (such as chemotherapy or radiation), and whose parent, guardian, or the child themselves can reliably report on the child's sleep patterns.
- Children who have a chronic illness other than cancer (such as asthma, type 1 diabetes, or chronic kidney disease), are currently in hospital and receiving active treatment for that condition, and do not have a pre-existing sleep disorder (such as narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea) that is unrelated to their chronic illness.
- Healthy children with no history of chronic illness, psychiatric disorders, or known sleep conditions — this group includes siblings of patients at the hospital and children of hospital staff such as nurses or administrative personnel.
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who are not Chinese.
- Children who are currently in an intensive care unit.
- Children who have severe cognitive difficulties that would prevent them or their parents/guardians from accurately reporting on their sleep.
- Children who have a neurological condition known to affect sleep on its own, such as epilepsy or cerebral palsy.
- Children who are taking sedative medications for reasons unrelated to their main condition (for example, medications used for behavioural management rather than as part of cancer treatment).
