Who might be able to join this trial:

This trial has three groups (cohorts). Each group has its own set of criteria.

Group 1 (SOLACE-1):

  • Adults aged 18 or older
  • Able to complete psychological questionnaires

  • Has at least one tumour that can be measured on scans
  • About to begin a first course of immunotherapy treatment (a type of cancer treatment that works with the immune system)

Group 2 (SOLACE-2):

  • Adults aged 18 or older
  • Able to complete psychological questionnaires
  • Liver function rated as Child-Pugh class A
  • Generally well enough to carry out light activity or be fully active
  • Has provided signed consent to participate
  • Expected to live more than 3 months, and more than 12 months overall
  • Diagnosed with liver cancer (HCC) confirmed by tissue sample after surgery aimed at removing the cancer completely
  • Cancer is at stage II or III (based on a specific medical staging system)
  • About to start immunotherapy within 4 to 6 weeks after surgery

Group 3 (SOLACE-3):

  • Adults aged 18 or older
  • Able to complete psychological questionnaires
  • Liver function rated as Child-Pugh class A
  • Generally well enough to carry out light activity or be fully active
  • Has provided signed consent to participate
  • Expected to live more than 3 months, and more than 12 months overall
  • Diagnosed with liver cancer (HCC) that is considered removable by surgery, confirmed by tissue sample or imaging
  • Has at least one tumour that can be measured on scans
  • About to begin immunotherapy treatment before surgery

Who may not be able to join:

All three groups share these criteria:

  • Currently taking antidepressant or anti-anxiety medications
  • Has a previous diagnosis of a psychiatric (mental health) condition
  • Has another cancer diagnosis at the same time
  • Unable to complete psychological assessments

Group 1 additional criteria:

  • Has previously received systemic cancer treatment (medicines that travel through the whole body to treat cancer)
  • Has brain metastases (cancer that has spread to the brain) that are causing symptoms
  • Liver function score above 7 on the Child-Pugh scale (indicating poorer liver health)

Group 2 additional criteria:

  • Has cancer cells remaining after surgery (incomplete removal)
  • Liver function rated as Child-Pugh class B or C (indicating poorer liver health)

Group 3 additional criteria:

  • Has serious heart, lung, or kidney problems
  • Has previously received systemic cancer treatment
  • Has brain metastases that are causing symptoms
  • Liver function rated as Child-Pugh class B or C
