Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are 18 years of age or older
  • People who have a confirmed diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (a type of primary liver cancer), diagnosed according to specific Chinese clinical guidelines
  • People whose liver cancer has been assessed as suitable for surgery — either removal of part of the liver or a liver transplant — and falls within certain early-to-intermediate stages (stages Ia, Ib, or IIa) as defined by Chinese cancer guidelines
  • People who have had imaging scans (such as CT or MRI) completed within one month before their surgery
  • People who have had a tissue sample examined under a microscope, with results that include information about whether tiny blood vessel involvement (called microvascular invasion) was present or not

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have already received any treatment for their liver cancer before surgery, including procedures such as chemotherapy delivered directly to the liver (TACE), heat-based tumour destruction (radiofrequency ablation), any systemic drug therapy, or any other pre-surgical cancer treatment
  • People whose cancer has spread into major blood vessels, bile ducts, or lymph nodes, or has spread to areas outside the liver
  • People whose liver cancer is spread widely throughout the liver, or where the tumour has burst and caused bleeding
  • People for whom key data needed for the main study analysis is missing or unavailable
  • People whose medical imaging is of too low a quality to allow accurate analysis
