Who might be able to join this trial:
If you are a patient with sinus problems:
- You have at least 2 nasal symptoms, and one of them must be either a blocked nose or discoloured nasal discharge.
- Your sinusitis has been confirmed by a nasal camera examination (endoscopy) or a CT scan.
- Your sinus symptoms have been ongoing for more than 12 weeks.
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form to take part in the study.
If you are a donor (providing a sample for a patient):
- You have not had any sinus or airway disease (other than a common cold) in the last two years.
- The patient has agreed to accept you as their donor.
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form to take part in the study.
Who may not be able to join:
If you are a patient with sinus problems:
- You have taken antibiotics in the three months before the study begins.
- You are currently taking part in, or have recently taken part in, another clinical trial.
- You are taking any medication that could affect the study results in an unpredictable way (confirm with trial site).
- You are being treated with a type of medication called monoclonal antibodies (also known as biologics).
- You have an immune system condition, other than a mild specific immune deficiency called low-grade MBL deficiency (confirm with trial site).
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have severe structural abnormalities in your nose or sinuses.
- Your symptom score on a standard sinus questionnaire (called SNOT-22) is below 20, meaning your symptoms are considered too mild for this trial (confirm with trial site).
If you are a donor:
- You have chronic (long-term) sinusitis.
- You have had an acute (short-term) sinus infection in the last two years.
- You have nasal polyps.
- You have taken antibiotics in the three months before the study begins.
- You are currently taking part in, or have recently taken part in, another clinical trial.
- Pre-study scan results show something that makes you unsuitable as a donor (confirm with trial site).
