Who may be able to join

  • People aged 50 years or older at the time of signing consent forms.
  • People who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease using recognised international diagnostic guidelines, confirmed by a specific blood test result (plasma ptau217 at or above 0.471 pg/mL).
  • People whose memory and thinking abilities fall within a mild to moderate range, as measured by a standard cognitive test (MMSE score between 10 and 26).
  • People who are either not currently taking any Alzheimer's medication, or who have been on a stable Alzheimer's medication (such as donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, memantine, or a combination) for at least 2 months before the screening visit.
  • People who have a designated support person who spends at least 8 hours per week with them, and who is able to attend study visits or be reached by phone at scheduled times.
  • A second backup support person is also allowed, and if the original support person steps down, a replacement may be permitted at the trial doctor's discretion, provided the replacement agrees to participate before their first study visit.
  • Both the person joining the trial (or their legal representative) and their support person(s) must be able to give informed consent.
  • People who have sufficient literacy, vision, and hearing, in the trial doctor's opinion, to be able to complete study assessments reliably.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have another neurological condition affecting memory or thinking in addition to Alzheimer's disease, such as Parkinson's disease, Dementia with Lewy bodies, or epilepsy or recurring seizures.
  • People whose most recent brain scan (CT or MRI) shows significant signs of other brain conditions, such as multiple small strokes, large strokes, severe damage to the brain's white matter, abnormal fluid on the brain, or growths inside the skull.
  • People whose most recent brain scan is not sufficient to rule out other conditions may need a repeat scan, particularly if there has been notable decline or new neurological symptoms suggesting a stroke (confirm with trial site).
  • People with serious or unstable health conditions in areas such as the heart, lungs, digestive system, hormones, immune system, blood, liver, or kidneys, where the trial doctor believes participation could be unsafe or affect the study results.
  • People whose dementia severity score (CDR Global Score) is 0, 0.5, or 3 at screening, meaning those with no dementia, very mild dementia, or severe dementia are not eligible.
  • People with severe vision or hearing problems that would prevent them from completing study assessments accurately.
  • People whose blood creatinine level is above 130 µmol/L at baseline, as this may affect blood biomarker testing.
  • People who are pregnant at the time of screening.
  • People who have taken part in another clinical trial or received an experimental treatment within the 60 days or 5 half-lives (whichever is longer) before screening.
  • People currently using any Alzheimer's disease-modifying or brain-protective treatments, including anti-amyloid therapies or supplements such as Ginkgo biloba, Neurotain, Citicoline, Cerebrolysin, or Piracetam.
  • People with a known allergy or sensitivity to MLC901 or any of its ingredients, or a known food allergy to any of the following: Astragalus, Ligusticum, Polygala, Angelica sinensis, or plants from the legume family (e.g., peas, beans), milkwort family, carrot/parsley family (e.g., anise, celery, dill, caraway, parsnip), or soapbark (Quillaja bark).
