Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People with any medical reasons that would make taking oral semaglutide (a medication) unsafe for them.
  • People with a significant brain or nervous system condition other than Alzheimer's disease that may affect thinking and memory.
  • People whose brain scan (MRI or CT) clearly shows that their memory problems are caused by blood vessel disease in the brain, or who meet the criteria for a diagnosis of vascular dementia.
  • People who currently have a clinically significant major mental health condition.
  • People who currently have a significant physical illness that is likely to worsen their condition or affect their safety during the study.
  • People who have had a heart attack within the past year.
  • People with any other significant abnormality found during a physical, neurological, or laboratory examination that could affect the study or the person's wellbeing.
  • People with a history of alcohol or drug dependence within the past 2 years.
  • People currently using strong pain-relieving medications (narcotics) that could affect thinking and memory.
  • Women who are able to become pregnant (confirm with trial site regarding contraception requirements and pregnancy testing before any PET scan).
  • People with any medical reasons that would make having an MRI scan unsafe for them.
  • People with a history of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) or gallstones, as confirmed by ultrasound or hospital admission.
  • People with a history of medullary thyroid cancer.
  • People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and are unwilling to change their current diabetes treatment to semaglutide.
