Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are 40 years of age or older
  • People with a body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) of 27 or above
  • People whose heart is pumping at least 50% of its normal capacity, and who experience mild to moderate heart failure symptoms such as shortness of breath or tiredness with everyday activities
  • People who have been diagnosed with a type of heart failure called HFpEF, supported by at least one of the following: a past hospital stay or urgent visit due to HFpEF where fluid-removing medication was given through a drip; an enlarged left chamber of the heart (confirmed by specific measurements); high pressure in the heart detected during a specialised heart test; certain abnormal results on a heart ultrasound; or an elevated level of a specific heart stress marker in the blood (confirm with trial site for exact values)
  • People who have completed a specific breathing and exercise test at the start of the trial showing they made a full physical effort during the test
  • People who are able to walk independently (not reliant on a wheelchair or scooter) and can complete walking and fitness tests
  • People whose medications have been at a stable dose for at least 30 days before the screening visit, with no new medications added and no existing dose changed by 50% or more

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had a serious worsening of their heart failure in the past 30 days that required hospital admission or intravenous fluid-removing medication
  • People who started a certain class of diabetes or weight management medication (GLP-1 receptor agonist or SGLT2 inhibitor) within 60 days before screening
  • People who have planned heart surgery or a heart procedure during the trial period
  • People who have recently joined or plan to join a weight loss program, cardiac rehabilitation, or a new exercise program during the study
  • People with certain specific types of heart muscle disease (such as constrictive, restrictive, infiltrative, toxic, hypertrophic, or congenital cardiomyopathy), or whose heart pumping function was below 40% at any point in the last three years, or who have active inflammation of the heart muscle
  • People who are currently breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning to become pregnant
  • People with serious conditions affecting other organ systems — such as a lung condition requiring supplemental oxygen at home during the day, severe anaemia (very low red blood cell levels), or advanced kidney disease — where that condition, rather than the heart failure, is considered the main reason for limited exercise ability
