Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, or HCC) that cannot be surgically removed or has spread, and where curative treatment is not possible.
• People whose cancer can be measured on scans, as assessed by the treating doctor and a radiologist.
• People who have already received one prior treatment course for their advanced liver cancer that included a specific type of immunotherapy drug (called an anti-PD-(L)1 checkpoint inhibitor), taken for at least 12 weeks, without the cancer getting worse during that time.
• People aged 18 or older at the time of signing the consent form.
• People whose doctor estimates they have a life expectancy of at least 3 months.
• People with a good general physical functioning level, rated 0 or 1 on a standard medical scale called the ECOG scale (confirm with trial site).
• People whose liver is functioning at a level rated "Child-Pugh A6" or better, which is a measure of liver health (confirm with trial site).

Who may not be able to join:

• People whose liver cancer is a specific rare type, including fibrolamellar HCC, sarcomatoid HCC, or a mixed type involving the bile ducts.
• People who have received more than one prior treatment course for their advanced liver cancer.
• People who have had palliative radiotherapy for symptom relief within the 28 days before starting the trial.
• People who are expected to need any other cancer treatment during the trial.
• People with active inflammatory bowel disease, active diverticulitis, an abscess in the abdomen, or a blockage in the digestive tract.
• People with a history of another cancer, unless they completed potentially curative treatment and have had no signs of that cancer returning for at least 5 years.
• People with known or detected active spread of any cancer to the brain or central nervous system.
• People who have had a heart attack, inflammation of the heart, or a stroke in the past 3 months, or who have uncontrolled heart failure, uncontrolled irregular heart rhythms, or a specific abnormal heart electrical reading (QT interval of 470ms or more) (confirm with trial site).
• People with an active autoimmune disease that has required systemic (whole-body) medical treatment within the past 3 months.
• People with type 2 diabetes who are currently taking metformin or a medication that contains metformin.
• People who are on long-term steroid tablets or injections for any ongoing condition.
• People who have previously received a liver transplant or transplant of any other organ.
