Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults between 18 and 50 years old
  • People with a body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) between 18 and 30

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, or a condition causing excessive daytime sleepiness

  • People who have an uncontrolled breathing or lung condition during the day, such as uncontrolled asthma, uncontrolled COPD, pneumonia, or scarring/inflammation of the lungs

  • People who use supplemental (extra) oxygen
  • People following a very low carbohydrate diet (less than 130g of carbohydrates per day), a ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, or taking ketone supplements
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People taking certain medications, including acetazolamide, a type of diabetes drug called an SGLT2 inhibitor, or daily opioid (strong painkiller) medications
  • People who have a history of claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) or panic disorder (confirm with trial site)
  • People who drink alcohol frequently, defined as more than 1 drink per day on average or more than 10 drinks per week
