Who may be able to join
- Women between 18 and 70 years of age (inclusive).
- People scheduled for a specific type of breast removal surgery (done through small incisions, preserving the nipple) on one or both breasts, with immediate breast reconstruction using an implant placed above the chest muscle, and the option of breast enlargement on the other side at the same time.
- People who have been confirmed before surgery to have a non-invasive breast cancer (carcinoma in situ), invasive breast cancer, or who are having a preventive mastectomy.
- People whose tumour measures 5 cm or less in its widest point (either before or after chemotherapy given before surgery), and where there is no sign that the cancer has spread to the nipple, skin, chest wall, or other parts of the body.
- People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 40 kg/m².
- People for whom the planned breast implant is smaller than 600 mL in volume.
- People who are able and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have had breast surgery within the 12 months before this operation (not counting needle biopsies or vacuum-assisted biopsies).
- People whose tumour has grown into the skin, the large chest muscle, the chest wall, or the nipple and the surrounding darker skin area.
- People with advanced (stage M1) breast cancer, meaning the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of breast cancer diagnosis.
- People who have scars below the nipple level or who have previously had radiation therapy to the breast area.
- People with serious other health conditions before surgery, poorly controlled diabetes, a weakened immune system, or overall health that is too poor to safely undergo surgery.
- People whose HbA1c (a blood test measuring average blood sugar levels) is above 7.5%.
- People who currently smoke heavily, defined as 20 or more cigarettes per day.
- People who experience certain complications during or shortly after surgery — such as tissue burns during the operation, removal of the nipple during surgery, or problems in the first 1 to 4 days after surgery including infection, poor blood supply to tissue, or bleeding in the surgical area — or who require nipple removal within one month after surgery (confirm with trial site).
- People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial that may affect participation in this trial.
- People who decline to sign the consent form.
