Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who have been diagnosed with breast cancer (confirmed through a tissue sample) and are planned to receive a specific type of chemotherapy before or after surgery, involving 4 cycles of either epirubicin + cyclophosphamide or doxorubicin + cyclophosphamide
- People for whom the trial site's medical team considers it appropriate to start either the study medication (dapagliflozin) or a placebo at the same time as, or just before, chemotherapy begins
- People who are able to complete a series of baseline tests, including a heart ultrasound, blood vessel ultrasound, a 6-minute walking test, and blood sample collection
- People who are willing and able to sign a written consent form to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have ever been diagnosed with heart failure
- People with significant heart valve disease
- People who have previously had chemotherapy or radiation treatment to the left side of the chest
- People with Type 1 diabetes
- People experiencing low blood pressure with noticeable symptoms
- People with a history of recurring urinary tract infections
- People with a history of a serious condition called diabetic ketoacidosis or high ketone levels in the blood
- People with severely reduced liver function (confirm with trial site for specific test values)
- People with severely reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site for specific test values)
- People with a known allergy or intolerance to a class of medications called SGLT-2 inhibitors
- People who have used any SGLT-2 inhibitor medication in the 3 months before enrolling in the trial
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whose overall health situation the trial's medical team judges may interfere with safe or complete participation in the study
