Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are scheduled to have a dual-chamber pacemaker implanted because of a permanent complete or significant partial blockage in the heart's electrical system (called complete heart block or second-degree AV block)
- Your heart's pumping strength (the left side of the heart) has been measured as normal or near-normal (50% or above)
- Your heart is beating in a normal, regular rhythm at the start of the study
- You are able and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a history of an irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation, whether it comes and goes or is constant
- You have previously had a procedure (using a catheter or surgery) to treat atrial fibrillation
- Your heart's pumping strength has been measured as below 50%
- You have a problem with the part of the heart that controls its natural rhythm (sinus node disease)
- Your heart's electrical blockage is temporary rather than permanent
- You have significant problems with your heart's structure or valves
- You will need your pacemaker system upgraded during the study period
- You need medication to control heart rhythm for reasons other than atrial fibrillation
- You already have a pacemaker or other heart device that would need to be changed for you to take part
- You are already enrolled in another clinical trial that could affect this study's results
- You have a medical reason why a specific type of pacemaker lead placement (called LBBP) would not be safe for you (confirm with trial site)
- Your life expectancy is less than 12 months
- The study doctor has identified any other condition that could affect your safety or the reliability of the study results (confirm with trial site)
