Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are between 18 and 80 years old
• You have active "trigger points" (tight, painful knots in the muscle) in the upper part of your trapezius muscle (the muscle running along the top of your shoulders and neck)
• If you need extra pain relief, you are able to manage it using only acetaminophen (such as Tylenol), though any pain medications you are already taking at a stable dose may be continued

Who may not be able to join:

• You have many trigger points in the trapezius muscle and the doctor believes this would make it hard to tell whether the treatment is working
• You have pain that travels down from your neck (nerve-related pain), or a nerve or muscle disease that could affect how results are interpreted
• You have fibromyalgia or another condition that causes widespread, generalized pain throughout your body
• You have used opioid pain medications (such as codeine, oxycodone, or morphine) in the past 3 months
• You currently have a substance use disorder
• You take certain medications — such as some antidepressants, nerve pain medications, or anti-seizure drugs — and have not been on a stable dose for at least two weeks before the study, or are unwilling to keep the dose the same throughout the study (confirm with trial site for the full list of affected medications)
• You have a skin allergy or sensitivity that would prevent sticky electrode pads from being placed on your skin
• You have a serious physical or mental health condition that the study doctor believes would prevent you from safely participating
• You take blood-thinning medications such as warfarin (Coumadin), clopidogrel (Plavix), or direct oral anticoagulants — note that aspirin is acceptable
• You have had needle-based trigger point treatment on the trigger point being studied within the past six weeks
• Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 35 (confirm with trial site if unsure)
• There is any other reason the study doctor believes you would not be able to complete the study procedures
