Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 80 years old
- People whose heart tracing (ECG) shows a specific pattern of abnormality (called ST-segment elevation of 2mm or more in at least 2 connected areas of the heart) lasting more than 30 minutes
- People where the estimated time between when symptoms started and when treatment to restore blood flow can be given is 12 hours or less

- People who are already regularly taking a type of medication called beta-blockers
- People who have previously had a heart attack

- People with a persistently slow heart rate (fewer than 55 beats per minute)
- People whose heart condition at first examination involves severe fluid build-up in the lungs or a state where the heart cannot pump enough blood to the body (confirm with trial site)
- People whose heart tracing (ECG) shows a specific electrical delay between the upper and lower chambers of the heart (PR interval greater than 200 milliseconds)
- People whose heart tracing (ECG) shows a partial or complete blockage of the electrical signals between the upper and lower chambers of the heart
- People who have a condition causing the airways to tighten and need medication to open them (such as an asthma attack requiring a reliever inhaler)
- People who may be pregnant or are in the period shortly after giving birth
- People who are unable to give consent or do not wish to sign the consent form
