Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old
  • You have been newly diagnosed with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) for the first time — not a recurrence
  • Your tumor is a single tumor measuring 5 cm or less in size
  • At least two experienced senior liver surgeons have agreed that your tumor can be surgically removed
  • Scans of your chest and abdomen show that the cancer has not spread to other parts of your body
  • Your liver is functioning well, rated as "Child-Pugh Class A" (a measure of liver health — confirm with trial site)
  • You, or your legal guardian, are able to understand the study details and sign a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • There is cancer found in the blood vessels or bile ducts of your liver
  • You have had another type of cancer in the past, unless it was a fully cured early-stage skin cancer or a specific type of cervical cancer (confirm with trial site)
  • Scans or surgery results show any remaining cancer, spread to lymph nodes, or incomplete removal of the tumor
  • You have a moderate to severe buildup of fluid in your abdomen, or your liver function score is above a certain level
  • You have an uncontrolled or significant buildup of fluid around your lungs or heart
  • You have serious heart, lung, or kidney problems
  • Your liver cancer has burst and you need emergency surgery
  • You or your family are not able to understand the goals and conditions of the study
