Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between the ages of 18 and 65
- People who have recently been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), confirmed by a sleep study showing an apnoea-hypopnoea index (AHI) score of 5 or higher (confirm with trial site)
- People who have tried a first-line OSA treatment and it has not worked for them
- People who are willing to either delay starting standard OSA treatment, or to stop their current OSA treatment, for a period of 3 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People with medical conditions that require limiting how much fluid they drink, such as swallowing difficulties, kidney disease, liver disease, or low sodium levels in the blood
- People with a severe blockage in their nose
- People with a severely restricted tongue movement (a condition sometimes called severe tongue-tie)
- People with significant differences in the structure of their face or skull
- People with severe lung disease
- People with severe post-traumatic stress disorder, based on a specific assessment score (confirm with trial site)
- People with very severe insomnia, based on a specific assessment score (confirm with trial site)
- People with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher
- People with a history of traumatic brain injury
- People with known swallowing difficulties affecting the mouth, throat, or food pipe
- People who are pregnant
- People with a known allergy to topical (surface-applied) anaesthetic
- People who are unable to fast (go without food or drink) for 6 hours
- People who have recently experienced a facial injury
- People who have recently had surgery on the nose, throat, voice box, or food pipe
- People with a known blockage in the nose, throat, or food pipe
- People who currently have an upper respiratory infection (such as a cold)
- People who do not have reliable enough internet or computer access to take part in remote study visits
- People with severe daytime sleepiness that puts them at risk of falling asleep while driving
- People with heart failure, a recent stroke, a recent heart attack, or similar serious heart or circulatory conditions
- People with a nasal obstruction symptom score above 15 on a specific scale (confirm with trial site)
