Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are able to give your consent to take part in the study.
- You have recently been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), confirmed by a sleep test showing you stop breathing or have disrupted breathing at least 10 times per hour during sleep.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a sleep or breathing problem that is caused by something other than obstructive sleep apnea, such as a neurological, nerve, muscle, or lung condition.
- You currently take medications to help you sleep, such as sleeping pills, benzodiazepines, certain antihistamines, trazodone, opioids, or barbiturates.
- You have had an allergic reaction to a medication called eszopiclone in the past.
- You have a medical reason why eszopiclone would not be safe for you, such as dizziness, balance problems, or difficulty moving around (confirm with trial site).
- You have a history of unusual or complex behaviors during sleep, such as sleepwalking or acting out dreams.
- You regularly drink 2 or more alcoholic drinks per night, or use other substances that slow down the brain and nervous system, in the 2 weeks before or during the study.
- You are not able to get at least 7 hours of sleep opportunity per night.
- You have severe active depression or another serious mental health condition, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or a personality disorder.
- You have a history of sleepwalking, sleep-driving, or doing other activities while not fully awake.
- You have previously had a car accident or a near-miss while driving due to feeling sleepy.
- You have serious liver problems, shown by liver test results that are more than twice the normal level.
- You have an unstable or very serious medical condition, such as severe heart failure, advanced lung disease, or end-stage kidney disease.
- You are a woman who is pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to become pregnant, or currently going through egg donation.
