Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 30 or older who have been diagnosed with stable coronary artery disease (a long-term heart condition affecting the arteries) and a specific type of dental root infection called chronic apical periodontitis.
  • People whose heart condition meets the definition used by the Brazilian Society of Cardiology, meaning they have a documented history of at least one of the following, occurring at least 6 months before joining the study: a heart attack; stable chest pain or signs of reduced blood flow to the heart on tests; heart bypass surgery or a procedure to open blocked arteries; or a blocked artery of more than 50% as shown by a special heart imaging test (confirm with trial site).
  • People who have at least one tooth with a confirmed infection at the root tip, shown by a dark spot of 3mm or larger on a dental X-ray, a score of 3 or higher on a standard dental rating scale, and a non-vital (dead) tooth nerve confirmed by cold and electrical sensitivity tests.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have other long-term health conditions that are known to affect inflammation or are linked to gum disease, such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic fever, cancer, breathing conditions, or kidney disease.
  • People who have gum disease (periodontal disease), whether affecting one area or more widespread across the mouth.
  • People who are currently experiencing acute (sudden or severe) symptoms.
  • People who have a history of smoking.
  • People who have recently had conditions known to affect the body's inflammation levels, such as a bone injury, surgery, or a viral infection.
  • People who have taken certain medications in the past 3 months that are known to affect inflammation, including steroids, immune-suppressing drugs, hormone replacement therapy, contraceptives, or antibiotics.
  • People with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher (a measure of body weight relative to height).
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
