Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old
  • You have been diagnosed with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma), confirmed either by a tissue sample or by standard medical imaging and clinical assessment
  • Your liver cancer is classified as an early or intermediate stage (known as BCLC stage A or B) (confirm with trial site)
  • You have already received a treatment called TACE (a procedure that delivers chemotherapy directly to the liver tumor through its blood supply)
  • You are scheduled to have a special type of CT scan (contrast-enhanced spectral CT) between 4 and 8 weeks after your TACE treatment
  • After that CT scan, you will either have surgery to remove part of your liver within 1 week, OR you will have another imaging test (a type of X-ray using dye, or an MRI scan) within 1 week
  • You are willing and able to give your informed consent to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a medical reason why you cannot safely receive the dye/contrast used in CT or MRI scans
  • You have a cancer elsewhere in your body outside the liver
  • Your scan images are not clear enough, or your medical records are incomplete
  • You are in the non-surgical group but are unable to attend regular follow-up CT or MRI appointments
  • You have chosen to withdraw from the study
