Who may be able to join
- Women between 18 and 75 years old.
- People with a good general level of physical fitness and ability to carry out daily activities (a medical performance score of 0 or 1 out of 4).
- People whose breast cancer has been confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy) as an invasive cancer, regardless of the specific type.
- People whose surgery removed all visible and detectable cancer, with no cancer left behind.
- People who meet one of the following treatment history and pathology combinations after surgery: triple-negative breast cancer who received pre-surgery chemotherapy (at least 6 cycles) but did not achieve a complete response; hormone receptor-positive (ER and/or PgR-positive), HER2-negative breast cancer who received pre-surgery chemotherapy or hormone therapy (at least 6 cycles) but did not achieve a complete response and still had cancer in the lymph nodes; triple-negative breast cancer who did not receive pre-surgery treatment and whose tumour was larger than a certain size or had spread to at least one lymph node; or hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer who did not receive pre-surgery treatment and had 4 or more positive lymph nodes, or 1–3 positive lymph nodes alongside at least one high-risk feature such as a tumour 5 cm or larger, a high-grade tumour, or a high Ki-67 score (a marker of how quickly cancer cells are growing) (confirm with trial site).
- People who have been found, through genetic testing, to carry a harmful or potentially harmful change (mutation) in one of a specific list of genes involved in DNA repair, including PALB2, RAD51C, RAD51D, BRIP1, and others (confirm with trial site for the full gene list).
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have cancer in both breasts, or who have a non-invasive form of breast cancer such as DCIS or LCIS.
- People whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic disease).
- People who have a suspicious but unconfirmed finding in the opposite breast that still requires a biopsy to check.
- People who have previously received treatment for advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
- People who have taken tamoxifen, raloxifene, or aromatase inhibitors to lower their risk of developing breast cancer, or who have had their ovaries surgically removed as a preventive measure, within the past 2 years.
- People who have had another cancer (other than a certain type of non-melanoma skin cancer or cervical carcinoma in situ) within the past 5 years, including cancer in the opposite breast.
