Who may be able to join
- People aged 12 to 18 years old.
- People who have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder (a formal diagnosis of persistent low mood and related symptoms) according to recognised diagnostic guidelines, confirmed through a structured clinical interview, and who are currently experiencing a depressive episode.
- People whose depression symptom score is 40 or above on a standard rating scale called the CDRS-R (confirm with trial site).
- People who have been on a stable psychiatric medication regimen for at least 4 weeks before joining, and who are able to continue that same medication throughout the study.
Who may not be able to join

- People who have a mental health condition in addition to depression, other than an anxiety disorder.
- People whose depression includes psychotic symptoms (such as hallucinations or delusions).
- People who score above 13 on a scale used to measure symptoms of mania (confirm with trial site).
- People who have a history of neurological conditions (such as epilepsy or brain injury) or serious physical health conditions (such as thyroid disorders, lupus, diabetes, lung, liver, or kidney problems, or major physical trauma).
- People who are currently taking anticonvulsant medications or high doses of benzodiazepines (a type of sedative medication).
- People who have previously received electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or brain stimulation treatments such as TMS, tDCS, tACS, or similar therapies.
- People who have a history of alcohol or drug misuse or dependence.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who are currently considered to be at high risk of suicide.
- People who have scalp conditions or other factors that could interfere with the delivery of magnetic stimulation to the brain.
- People for whom an MRI scan is not medically safe or suitable.
