Who may be able to join
- People aged 70 years or older.
- People who have been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer confirmed through a tissue sample (biopsy).
- People whose cancer has been assessed by mammogram and ultrasound as an early-stage tumour (classified as cT1N0M0), where the cancer is sensitive to hormones (ER-positive) and does not have high levels of a protein called HER2 (HER2-negative), regardless of another hormone receptor called PR.
- People who also have a non-invasive breast cell change called DCIS, as long as it makes up less than 25% of the biopsy sample and imaging does not suggest it is widespread.
- People whose tumour is a single spot smaller than 2 cm, clearly visible on ultrasound, and located at least 5 mm away from the skin, nipple, and chest wall.
- People who are able and willing to follow all requirements of the trial.
- People who have received hormone-based treatment before surgery (preoperative endocrine therapy is permitted).
- People who have provided written consent to participate.
Who may not be able to join

- People whose breast abnormality is purely DCIS with no invasive cancer present.
- People whose imaging shows extensive calcium deposits that suggest the disease may be widespread.
- People diagnosed with a specific type of breast cancer called invasive lobular carcinoma, confirmed by laboratory testing.
- People whose cancer is classified as triple-negative or HER2-positive (based on specific laboratory test results).
- People who have previously had breast cancer or DCIS in the same breast.
- People who have previously had radiotherapy to the same breast.
- People who are unable to communicate in Dutch or English.
- People who have plans to move away or stay abroad for an extended period within one year of joining the trial.
