Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 or older
  • People who have been diagnosed with chronic (long-term) heart failure
  • People who are already receiving the recommended standard treatments for heart failure, including both medications and any relevant devices
  • People whose heart pumping strength (called ejection fraction) is measured at 40% or below on an ultrasound of the heart
  • People whose heart failure symptoms fall into a moderate category — specifically, those with mild limitations on physical activity (NYHA Class II), or those with more noticeable limitations (NYHA Class III) who also have at least one of the following: a hospital stay for heart failure in the past 12 months, or a specific heart-stress marker (BNP or NT-proBNP) in the blood that was above a certain level in the past 3 months (confirm with trial site for exact levels and whether this applies based on heart rhythm and current medications)
  • People who are able to complete a 6-minute walking test, covering a distance of between 100 and 450 metres

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose heart failure has recently worsened severely, requiring hospitalisation in the past 2 weeks, or whose heart failure is at an advanced stage with no response to treatment, or who are already listed for a heart transplant or a mechanical heart pump device
  • People whose body weight falls outside a healthy range — specifically, a BMI above 40 or below 18.5
  • People whose resting blood pressure is either too low (below 90 mmHg) or too high (160 mmHg or above)
  • People with moderate or severe narrowing of the aortic or mitral heart valves, or who are expected to need a procedure during the trial for severe leaking of any of the four heart valves
  • People who have coronary artery disease that requires a procedure to restore blood flow to the heart
  • People whose heart failure is caused by specific conditions such as an abnormally thickened heart muscle, active inflammation of the heart, fluid around the heart, or a heart defect present from birth
  • People who have had a stroke, a mini-stroke (TIA), a blood clot in a deep vein, or a blood clot in the lungs within the past 3 months
  • People with serious long-term lung disease that requires ongoing oxygen therapy or regular steroid medication
  • People who have had a procedure involving puncture of the wall between the upper chambers of the heart within the past 3 months (such as certain heart valve repairs, procedures for irregular heart rhythm, or closure of a part of the heart called the left atrial appendage)
  • People with significant weakness of the right side of the heart, based on specific measurements taken during a heart ultrasound (confirm with trial site)
  • People with significantly reduced kidney function, based on a blood test result below a certain threshold (confirm with trial site)
