Who may be able to join
- A person must have a confirmed diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, shown through brain imaging or body fluid tests that detect the abnormal proteins amyloid-beta and tau.
- The Alzheimer's disease must be at a mild stage, measured by standard rating scales (CDR score of 1 or lower, or QDRS score of 8 or lower).
- A person must be in stable general health and able to attend appointments and complete the required study activities.
- Any medications that affect mood, behaviour, or mental health must have been taken at a consistent dose for at least 4 weeks before the study begins.
- A person must not currently be receiving a type of treatment called anti-amyloid monoclonal antibody therapy.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People with a new or unstable neurological condition (affecting the brain or nervous system) or an unstable mental health condition that could affect safety or the study results may not be eligible.
- People with significant kidney or thyroid problems that raise safety concerns, or whose routine blood tests show results linked to the study drug that would require stopping it, may not be eligible.
- People who use a type of water tablet called thiazide diuretics during the dosing period may not be eligible, unless these were stopped at least 4 weeks before the study begins.
- People who take certain anti-inflammatory painkillers (non-aspirin NSAIDs, including COX-2 inhibitors) on a daily, ongoing basis may not be eligible; short-term use requires approval from the study team and may involve a temporary pause in the study drug.
- People who begin certain treatments that are not permitted — such as anti-amyloid monoclonal antibody therapy — during the active treatment period may not be eligible.
- People who do not follow essential study procedures, such as repeatedly missing visits or refusing required tests, in a way that would prevent key safety or study data from being collected, may not be eligible.
