Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults who have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis based on recognised medical classification standards
- People who, after being assessed by their doctor, are about to start or are planning to start methotrexate treatment given by injection under the skin, where the expected benefits outweigh the risks
- People who are willing to take part, are able to attend follow-up appointments, and agree to sign a consent form
The following criteria apply to specific sub-groups within the trial:
- People who have already been diagnosed with a lung condition involving scarring or abnormalities of the lung tissue, and whose lung function test results show the lungs are working at 50% or more of the expected level (confirm with trial site)
- People who have a clearly identified disease subtype recorded at the time of joining the trial (confirm with trial site)
- People who have been diagnosed with stable heart artery disease, including those who had a heart procedure or bypass surgery at least one year ago, or whose scans show a significant narrowing in at least one heart artery that does not require further intervention, and who also have a blood inflammation marker at a certain level or above (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whose blood test results show kidney function outside acceptable ranges, or whose liver enzyme levels are more than 1.5 times the upper limit of the normal range
- People whose blood platelet count or white blood cell count is below a certain level, or whose total bilirubin level is more than 1.5 times the upper limit of the normal range
- People with serious, uncontrolled health conditions affecting the nervous system, heart, liver, kidneys, digestive system, or hormonal system, which in the investigator's judgement could interfere with taking part in the study
- People who have been diagnosed with any cancer in the past 5 years
- People with severely uncontrolled heart failure, or high blood pressure that cannot be brought under control even with three or more blood pressure medications at adequate doses
- People with a known or confirmed significant problem with their immune system
- People with a serious ongoing or active infection, whether short-term or long-term
- People with existing blood or bone marrow disorders, such as low white blood cell counts, low platelet counts, anaemia, or related conditions
- People who are known to be allergic to the medication being studied
- People with a history of drug or alcohol misuse, or a mental health condition that would make it difficult to participate in the study
- Anyone else the investigator considers unsuitable for the trial for reasons not listed above
