Who may be able to join

  • Women between 28 and 70 years old at the time of joining the trial.
  • Women who have been diagnosed as being in the perimenopausal stage, based on specific medical criteria — this may include irregular periods, certain hormone levels found on blood tests, and/or symptoms such as hot flushes, sleep problems, mood changes, or memory and concentration issues.
  • Women who are willing to receive a procedure in which cells are injected into the ovaries using ultrasound guidance, as part of their care.
  • Women who are able to give written consent and attend follow-up visits, blood tests, ultrasounds, and complete questionnaires over a 24-month period.
  • Women who are in generally good enough health to undergo the procedure under sedation or local anaesthetic, as assessed by their treating doctor.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • Women who have a history of ovarian or gynaecological cancer, or who have been in remission for less than 5 years, or who currently have an active autoimmune condition that requires medication to suppress the immune system.
  • Women with serious uncontrolled health conditions, such as severe heart disease, blood clotting disorders, or poorly controlled diabetes or thyroid disease.
  • Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Women who have used hormone therapy within the past 3 months.
  • Women with a BMI over 40, or other factors that would increase the risks associated with the procedure.
  • Women who would not be able to follow the study procedures and requirements.
