Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have serious memory or thinking problems (such as dementia or severely reduced consciousness), or a known history of psychiatric illness, who are unable to complete the study assessments and do not have a family member who can help them do so.
  • People who have other serious, uncontrolled health conditions (such as severe heart, lung, or kidney failure) and whose doctor estimates they have less than 3 months to live.
  • People who are unable to understand Chinese, or who have severe vision or hearing problems that would prevent them from completing the survey questions, and who do not have a family member who can help them do so.
