Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with chronic heart failure, where the heart's pumping function is reduced, mildly reduced, or only slightly affected, and whose symptoms are moderate (able to do some daily activities but limited by breathlessness or fatigue).
- People who were admitted to hospital for heart failure in the 6 months before enrolling, where that admission involved breathlessness, elevated levels of a specific heart-stress marker in the blood, and at least two of the following: fluid in or around the lungs, swelling in the legs or feet, or treatment with a strong water tablet given through a drip.
- People who currently have no signs of fluid build-up in the body, meaning no neck vein swelling above a certain level, no breathlessness when lying flat, no crackling sounds in the lungs, and little to no leg swelling.
- People who are on a stable dose of water tablets taken by mouth, if these have been prescribed to them.
- People who are able to give their written agreement to take part in the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a heart attack, heart surgery, a blood clot in the lungs, a stroke, a heart rhythm procedure, a heart valve procedure, a defibrillator implanted, or an emergency heart artery procedure within the last 3 months.
- People who have any of those same procedures planned during the course of the study.
- People who have previously had a heart transplant, or who are currently being considered for one.
- People with complex heart defects present from birth.
- People whose heart failure is caused by active inflammation of the heart muscle, scarring around the heart, a known thickening of the heart muscle, a protein build-up disease affecting the heart, or a severe heart valve problem that has not been treated.
- People with high blood pressure in the lung arteries not caused by another condition, a long-term blood clot in the lungs, or severe lung disease.
- People with serious liver disease, including cirrhosis or chronic active hepatitis.
