Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with acute heart failure where the body is retaining too much fluid (known as volume overload)
  • People who have at least one physical sign of excess fluid buildup in the body (such as swelling)
  • People who are expected to need heart failure treatment given through a drip (intravenous furosemide) for at least 3 days
  • People aged 18 years or older

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are in shock (a serious condition where the body is not getting enough blood flow)
  • People who need medications to help the heart pump harder or to raise blood pressure (inotropes or vasopressors)
  • People who are currently receiving, or are planned to receive, dialysis or a related fluid-removal procedure (renal replacement therapy or ultrafiltration)
  • People who have had a kidney transplant
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People with severely low potassium levels (below 2.5 mmol/L) or severely low sodium levels (below 125 mmol/L) in their blood
  • People who have a known allergy to furosemide or any of its ingredients
