Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Women aged 18 or older who are at risk of HIV
  • Women who started a PrEP program (either an injectable or pill form of HIV prevention medication) at one of the 20 supported clinic sites in Blantyre
  • Women who missed their PrEP appointments by 3 months or more within the last 2 years, and whose current situation is not yet known to the clinic
  • Women who have a phone number registered with the clinic that can be used to contact them
  • Women who give permission to be contacted in person (for the in-person follow-up part of the study)
  • Healthcare providers, clinic staff, and government health officials connected to the supported program may also be eligible to take part in separate interviews

Who may not be able to join:

  • Women whose clinic records show they officially stopped PrEP after a discussion with their healthcare provider
  • Women who are known to have passed away
  • Women whose clinic records show they transferred to a clinic outside the supported program
  • Women who indicated on their clinic form that they do not want to be contacted by phone
  • Women who said during a phone call that they do not want an in-person follow-up visit
  • Women who do not speak Chichewa or English
  • Men (excluded from the patient interview part of the study)
