- People who are already scheduled to have planned (non-emergency) heart surgery
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had brain surgery, or who have a history of brain conditions such as bleeding in the brain, stroke, delirium, or dementia
- People who have a history of mental health disorders
- People who drink heavily on a regular basis
- People whose overall health has been rated as very poor under a standard anaesthesia risk scale (ASA classification level IV or higher) (confirm with trial site)
- People with severe liver disease (known as Child-Pugh grade C) or significant kidney disease (chronic kidney disease stage 3 or 4)
- People who are unable to communicate due to hearing difficulties or language barriers, or who do not wish to sign the consent form to participate
