Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are being checked for a heart condition called HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) because a family member has it or because of a genetic test result
  • You are between 10 and 18 years old (including those ages)
  • You are already a patient at the inherited cardiac conditions clinic at Alder Hey Children's Hospital
  • Your heart is currently working normally
  • You are able to fill in a weekly exercise diary with help from a parent or carer if needed
  • Either you or your parent/carer is able to take part in follow-up phone calls

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have moderate to severe health conditions alongside the heart condition, such as conditions affecting your muscles, breathing, or ability to move around
  • You have learning difficulties that would make it hard to take part in exercise activities
  • You already show signs or symptoms of HCM (confirm with trial site)
  • You have a history of heart rhythm problems or fainting triggered by exercise
  • You have a history of fainting for unknown reasons
  • You have an implantable cardiac defibrillator (a small device fitted in your body to monitor and correct your heartbeat)
  • A close family member (such as a parent or sibling) has died suddenly due to a heart-related cause
  • Either you or your parent/carer is not able to take part in follow-up phone calls
