Who may be able to join
- Children between the ages of 3 and 10 years old
- Children who are scheduled for a planned surgery to remove the adenoids, tonsils, or both
- Children who are generally healthy or have only mild health conditions, as assessed by an anaesthesiologist using a standard health classification scale (ASA status I or II)
- Children whose parents or legal guardians have provided written agreement for participation

- Children who have a developmental delay
- Children with a history of neurological or psychiatric conditions
- Children who are currently using or have recently used corticosteroid medicines (such as certain anti-inflammatory drugs)
- Children whose surgery is expected to last longer than 90 minutes
- Children whose parents or legal guardians do not wish them to take part
