Who may be able to join

  • Young people between the ages of 12 and 17 years old.
  • People who have been admitted to an inpatient psychiatric unit following a suicide attempt or because they are having active thoughts of suicide.
  • Both the young person and their parent or guardian must be able to speak and understand English.
  • Both the young person and their parent or guardian must be able to understand what the trial involves and be willing to sign the relevant agreement forms giving their consent to take part.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People with a moderate or severe intellectual disability, which the trial defines as an IQ below 70 or those currently attending special education classes on a full-time basis.
  • People who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia or who have a history of any type of psychosis, including psychosis related to mood disorders or brief reactive psychosis.
  • People who are currently in the custody of Children's Services.
