Who may be able to join
- People who are outpatients or inpatients at The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University.
- People who have been diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder as their main diagnosis by two experienced psychiatrists, using an established international diagnostic system (ICD-11).
- People with a score of 14 or higher on a standard anxiety rating scale called the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA).
- People aged 18 to 60 years old (inclusive).
- People who are right-handed.
- People who have completed at least junior high school education and have enough ability to understand the study process, complete consent forms, and take part in assessments.
- People who are either not currently taking anti-anxiety or antidepressant medications, or who have been on a stable medication dose for at least one month before joining and do not plan to change their medication during the two-week treatment period (unless medically necessary).
- People who are willing to take part voluntarily, sign a consent form, and are able to attend visits, follow treatment procedures, and meet other study requirements.
Who may not be able to join

- People who are experiencing psychotic symptoms.
- People who have been diagnosed (currently or within the past year) with schizophrenia or another primary psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, a current depressive episode, persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia), or post-traumatic stress disorder, according to ICD-11 criteria.
- People who have a brain disease with a physical cause, or a serious physical health condition, including (but not limited to) thyroid disease, lupus, diabetes, severe lung, liver, or kidney problems, active infection, or major physical injury.
- People with a significant uncorrectable sensory problem, such as a hearing impairment that prevents normal communication.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People for whom the brain stimulation technique used in this trial (transcranial electrical stimulation) would not be safe, including those with metal implants in the body, raised pressure in the brain, skull defects, a brain tumour, severe heart disease, unstable vital signs due to serious illness, acute stroke or other sudden brain blood vessel problems, or a history of a bad reaction to electrical stimulation.
- People who have any other condition that the trial investigator considers would make participation in this study unsuitable.
