Who may be able to join
- Women aged 18 or older who are having breast cancer surgery at Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe and have been referred to the early post-surgery rehabilitation programme through the standard care process.
- People having any type of breast surgery, including surgery that removes only part of the breast or the whole breast, with or without reconstruction or an implant, and including surgery on both breasts.
- People having any type of underarm (axillary) surgery, including removal of one or a few lymph nodes (sentinel lymph node biopsy) or removal of more lymph nodes (axillary lymph node dissection).
- People having surgery for a cancer that has come back, or a second operation (for example, to remove more tissue, treat complications, or for cancer-related reasons), as long as it is medically appropriate to begin the rehabilitation programme.
- People who are able to understand instructions, fill in questionnaires, and sign a consent form.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People for whom it would not be safe to begin the rehabilitation programme in the first weeks after surgery, due to medical or surgical reasons or serious complications — for example, if strict rest, specific movement restrictions, or a long hospital stay are needed, as determined by the surgical or rehabilitation team.
- People who had a serious pre-existing condition affecting one or both arms before surgery that significantly limited movement or function, making it difficult to track recovery accurately — for example, a shoulder replacement, a recent fracture, a severely inflamed frozen shoulder, or a large untreated rotator cuff tear with major functional impact.
- People with a serious neurological or musculoskeletal condition that significantly affects arm function and could influence the trial's results — for example, a stroke with major lasting effects, a spinal cord injury, or severe nerve damage.
- People with significant cognitive impairment, a severe and unstable psychiatric condition, or a language barrier without available support, which would prevent them from understanding instructions or completing assessments.
- People already taking part in another study that the trial investigator believes could significantly affect this trial's results.
