Who may be able to join
- People who have previously had breast-conserving surgery or full breast removal (mastectomy), and whose post-surgery tissue testing confirmed invasive breast cancer or a non-invasive form called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
- People whose breast cancer has come back only in the local area (where the original surgery was done), confirmed by tissue testing, with no signs of the cancer having spread to other parts of the body.
- People aged 18 or older who are in good enough general health (rated 0 or 1 on a standard fitness scale used by doctors) to undergo repeat surgery and further cancer treatment.
- People who are willing to take part in the study and have signed a written consent form.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People whose breast cancer has spread to distant parts of the body at the same time as the local recurrence is diagnosed.
- People with serious problems affecting major organs (such as the heart, liver, or kidneys) that would make repeat surgery or systemic cancer treatment unsafe.
- People who would not be able to attend all the required long-term follow-up appointments as set out in the study plan.
